Introducing My Debut Novel:
The Stars Are Always There

the night sky is filled with stars above a grassy hill
the night sky is filled with stars above a grassy hill

Twelve-year-old Jess Lindsey never imagined spending her entire summer on the dusty Texas Panhandle. But when she arrives at her family’s
ranch, a place built by her great‑grandfather
and ripe with lessons she doesn’t realize she
needs, Jess discovers the land itself is in trouble.

A wealthy farmer is pumping more water than the earth can spare. Wells run dry, tempers flare,
and strange things are stirring on the prairie:
animals are trying to tell her something, the wind
is listening, and the stars feel closer than normal.

As Jess uncovers the ranch’s secrets, she must decide who she wants to be; quiet and careful like always, or brave enough to speak up when it matters most. With a loyal horse, a few unlikely allies, and a whisper of magic guiding her, Jess sets out to protect the place that’s starting to feel like home.

Sometimes it only takes one voice--one courageous kid--to remind people that the land, like family, is always worth protecting.

About Jaime Maria Merrill

Jaime has over 30 years experience in business, and has stories to tell; mostly fictionalized. She harnessed her childhood memories in writing her debut novel,The Stars Are Always There. This middle grade story of a girl's isolation and journey of self-discovery on the arid, high plains of Texas illustrates how one voice can make a difference, even when facing overwhelming odds.

In addition to fiction, Jaime explores the struggles of our lives as we face an uncertain future. Jaime's insights on what we need to perform and thrive as individuals and as a society come from personal and professional encounters with people in crisis. Courage in the face of adversity builds resilience. This truth sustains us.
